LAHORE: The suspect accused of murdering Zeenat, Anees was arrested on Monday.
Zeenat was burnt to death for marrying the boy of her choice. Anees is her brother and had reportedly confessed to his sister’s murder. Sources said that police arrested him from a house in Lahore’s Nishtar Colony area. During initial investigation Anees disclosed that he had first strangled Zeenat and then burnt her to death, sources added. His statement regarding the murder also matched the findings of the autopsy report of the deceased. According to sources, he also confessed that his mother abetted him in strangling and burning Zeenat to death. He said that his sister-in-law was also in the house at the time of incident. “After committing her murder, I ran from the house,” said Anees, according to the police.
17-year-old Zeenat was from Lahore’s Factory area and was burnt to death on Wednesday, June 8. Her husband, Hassan Khan, revealed to the police that she had been killed by her mother and brother for marrying him. Her mother, Parveen Bibi who was the prime suspect in this murder case had already been arrested by police. She also confessed to killing her daughter and stated that she had no remorse. Eyewitnesses said that after committing the murder, Parveen had taken to the streets, beaten her chest and openly announced that she had killed her daughter. Hussian stated that Zeenat’s family had invited her to come home so that they could throw her a proper wedding party. He added that Zeenat feared for her life but he convinced her to go to her family’s house.
A twist in the story came later when he went back on his initial confession and claimed innocence from killing Zeenat. “Zeenat was my little sister and I had raised her like a little child,” stated Anees. Police decided to conduct a lie detector case to determine the truth in his statement. When he was asked why he flee from the police if he was innocent, he said that he his friends had advised him as such.
