NEW DELHI: Pakistan’s High Commissioner in India Abdul Basit Sunday said that Pakistan had always desired and endeavoured to have cooperative relations with India on the basis of sovereign equality and peaceful resolution of the bilateral disputes.
Addressing the flag hoisting ceremony arranged by Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi at the Chancery’s lush green lawns, Basit said that the political aspiration of the people of Jammu Kashmir could not be suppressed, nor could anyone belittle or wish away their legitimate struggle and enormous sacrifices.
Basit, who also hoisted the national flag at the ceremony, said it was incumbent upon the international community to ensure implementation of the relevant UN resolutions to settle the longstanding Kashmir issue. “Pakistan would continue extending its full diplomatic, political and moral support to the valiant people of Kashmir till they get their right to self-determination,” he added.
The high commissioner highlighted significance of the independence movement and huge sacrifices rendered by the founding fathers of the nation. He said that Pakistan was a blessing and that it was destined to become a bastion of peace and prosperity. Basit said that people of Pakistan were united to overcome the internal and external challenges and thwart all conspiracies aimed at destabilising Pakistan.
On the occasion, students of the Pakistan High Commission School presented national songs and tableau. Summiya Basit, wife of the Pakistani high commissioner, gave away prizes and gifts to teachers and children of the school. Earlier, Deputy High Commissioner Syed Haider Shah read out Independence Day messages from the president and the prime minister of Pakistan.
