ISLAMABAD: After facing severe criticism over injuring of thousands of people due to the use of pellet guns, Indian forces will shortly start using another lethal weapon, chilli-filled shells PAVA, for dispersing protesters in Held Kashmir (IHK).
This follows the report of an expert committee which was set-up amid an uproar over use of pellet guns by the forces in dealing with protesters during the current uprising, KMS reported. The committee was asked to suggest an alternative to the pellet guns. Every day, around 1,000 PAVA shells are reaching Kashmir since September 5.
Pellet guns have caused a large number of injuries and in some cases even death. Many people have lost their vision during the ongoing uprising in the Valley, leading to demands that these guns be abandoned. Thousands of civilians have suffered pellet injuries during the last two months.
