Assistant Inspector General (Operations) Islamabad Police Aashir Hameed was found dead in his room here at the officers’ mess on Friday.
He was rushed to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) where the doctors declared him dead. The doctors said the most probable cause of his death was cardiac arrest. However the actual cause of his death will be determined after postmortem. No apparent injury was found in initial body examination.
After the incident the senior police officers including Inspector General Tariq Masood Yasin reached the Sabzi Mandi Police Station under which jurisdiction the police lines area falls. The service of late AIG Aashir was handed over to the Islamabad Police in October last year. He was serving as the Additional Inspector General Operations and Establishment .
After being posted to Islamabad he stayed at room No 36 of MNA Hostel in the after which he was allotted official accommodation in the officers luxury room at police lines like other officers of the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP) group. The police said that AIG Aashir used to go Lahore to meet his family on every Friday but on July 22, he was found dead in mysterious conditions in his room.
The police sources disclosed that there was bleeding from his mouth and nose. Initially his death was being termed as natural death but the real cause would be determined after post-mortem. The sources said that he was tangled in some office affairs. Some months ago his brother had died due to cardiac failure which had also left him depressed.
It is pertinent to mention here that before his transfer to Islamabad, AIG Aashir was working as Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) (Investigation) at the Faisalabad Region, from where he was transferred to the Punjab Investigation Branch Lahore in July 2012. Afterwards he was transferred to Islamabad.
The luxury rooms were constructed at police lines Islamabad for the residence of the officers living alone, whereas eight bungalows are newly constructed and are reserved for the officers having their families with them. The deceased officer was living unaccompanied in the luxury rooms.
The police staff deputed at the police lines knocked the door of his room after passage of 18 hours of his death. The police officials opened the lock of the door when no response came from inside, and found him lying in the condition that his mouth was towards earth. The sources said that he might have suffered a brain hemorrhage which became the cause of his death as there were blood traces on his mouth as well as nose.
