LAHORE – Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) Chairperson Irfan Qaiser Sheikh has said that more than 37000 trainees have been enrolled as apprentices in different industries of Punjab up to March 2016.
While addressing a meeting to review the progress of Apprenticeship Training Scheme here on Monday at TEVTA Secretariat, he said all the regional directorates of the training would achieve the target of 65,000 apprentices up to December, 2016.
He said that the TEVTA also successfully reached the target to recruit 28,000 apprentices up to December, 2015, adding that the number of enrollment of apprentices is constantly growing. It is pertinent to mention here that the strength of on roll apprentices up to June 2015 was 14,018.
The TEVTA chairperson further said that in addition to enrolling maximum number of apprentices, the said scheme is also being made more flexible to give maximum benefit to our youth. Efforts are being carried out to bring the maximum number of industries under the purview of Apprenticeship Ordinance, 1962, he said.
Recently, 147 new industries have been notified for implementation of apprenticeship scheme, whereas 50 industries are under process of notification, he concluded.
The meeting was attended by TEVTA Chief Operating Officer Jawad Ahmed Qureshi, TEVTA officials Azhar Iqbal Shad, Hamid Ghani Anjum, Umer Farooq, Mustafa Kamal Pasha, Maqsood Ahmed, Waheed Asghar, Sarfraz Anwar and others.
